Thanksgiving Day Events In and Around Columbus

Thanksgiving is more than family and friends, food, and football. There are a growing number of family-centered events that now occur each year in and around the Columbus area. Here are a couple events that are our favorites and that we like to participate in. Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot The first is the Chase Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot, a 25-year old tradition for the whole family that is hosted by Whole Foods Market Upper Arlington at the Shops on Lane Avenue. The proceeds from the event benefit Easter Seals and the Make First Five Count Program. Runners World Magazine even has selected this as the best Hometown Favorite Race. The race course takes the participants past many landmarks in and around Ohio State University. There is a five-mile race and a 2.5 mile-“Walk N Talk” race. All finishers get a medal while the top finishers also get a fresh pumpkin pie from Whole Foods. All participants also get a swag bag with a shirt, goody bag, and ticket for a finish line snack and drink. There is also an event for the kids called the McDonald’s Tot Trot, which is a 100-yard dash. Each child that participates in this free event gets a t-shirt, ribbon, and treat. Thousands of participants join the races each year, and it’s a great way to work up a big appetite for that delicious meal later in the day while participants and volunteers can cheer on all the runners and walkers. Thanksgiving Wattle The other big event is the Thanksgiving Wattle in Grove City. This is the third time the morning 5K run has been hosted by the city and it grows each year in popularity and support. Over 50% of the event profits and 100% of all donations goes [...]

Set the Thanksgiving Table and Fill the House with Fall Floral Splendor

It’s not that long before Thanksgiving is here so now is the time to get some of that planning out of the way, including how to decorate the home and table for Thanksgiving as well as what gifts to send out that show your thanks to colleagues, clients, and, of course, loved ones.  Decorating Tips for Thanksgiving There are many ways to decorate the home for Thanksgiving: Add a welcoming wreath to the front door. Place garlands of fall flowers and leaves throughout the home, including door frames, mantels, and staircases. Use centerpieces on the dining table, buffet table, family room table, and foyer tables to add to the warmth. Participate in a new trend of tablescapes that create a floral display across the entire table. Include candles to add a warm glow during this often chilly holiday season. Create individual floral displays at each place setting for a more intimate feel to the Thanksgiving table. This also makes a great gift for each guest to take home. Our Fall Floral Splendor Collection Here are some great ideas from our floral design team on creating fall floral splendor this Thanksgiving: Autumn Expressions is a bright and bold centerpiece that has Fuji mums, miniature roses, carnations, daisies and fall leaves. Harvest Glow is a smaller centerpiece that includes Fuji mums, carnations, daisies and miniature roses. Cornucopia is bursting with rovers, roses, and miniature pumpkins in a decorative cornucopia basket. Orange Grove is a bright display of orange lilies, orange spray roses, and orange carnations hand arranged in an orange plastic vase. Golden Days is bright and sunny with sunflowers, Asiatic lilies, red roses, gold and burgundy chrysanthemums, solidaster and salal in a wicker basket. Fiery Autum contains alstromeria, red asters, red hypericum berries and a fiery orange [...]
